Description: This rare and much sought-after species is native to Central Sulawesi where it grows on mossy ridges in montane forest. The bizarre clawed peristome is the plant's trademark feature, and it is on the upper pitchers that this is most highly developed. Lower pitchers are richly coloured with dark purple spots and are adorned with bristly wings and lids.

Cultivation recommendations: Like the closely-related N. tentaculata, this species performs best in a potting mixture containing a good proportion of sphagnum moss. Requires cool humid conditions to thrive. See also: How to Grow Nepenthes
